When considering solutions to satisfy the ergonomics of such a display, optical designers are forced to opt for a "virtual display" (not to be confused with Virtual Reality VR), where the optical system projects an image that appears to resolve as a flat screen in front of the user. The Virtual Screen is nothing more complex than an optical illusion, where optical design provides a simple and relaxed method of resolving high-resolution imagery. Virtual screen displays and DigiLens technology are highly complementary, especially when combined with miniature "microdisplays".
Designers are now able to deliver high resolution at a quality that not only meets industry standard SVGA and beyond, but also provides a flexible lightweight and configurable optical system for maximum comfort during use.
