DigiLens is looking for Materials Engineers at all levels, with a proven track record of successful development of nano-composites. These positions will work with our team in Silicon Valley R&D Centre, located in Sunnyvale, California.

  • This position will work hand in hand with Materials, Optical and Process Engineering teams to shape the future of Waveguide optics

What can you do for DigiLens?

  • Formulation of organic nano-composites. Support advancement of nano-materials composed of liquid crystals, photoresponsive reagents and other additives.
  • Identify and synthesize new organic reagents to improve processes for nano-composites. Understanding of functional groups and monomer-polymer chemistry is required.
  • Support a multi-disciplinary team for fabrication and testing of electro-optic devices for a variety of commercial applications
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training of chemical technicians to create and maintain documents and procedures

What you need for success

  • BS or equivalent in chemistry or materials science. Masters or Ph.D. desirable.
  • Comprehension of chemical formulations and material processing techniques.
  • Understanding of photo-induced organic reactions and dye chemistry.
  • Team player with “whatever it takes” approach.
  • Authorized to work in USA.

Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • 1-6 years of experience in the chemical Industry, polymers, liquid crystals or organic reagents. Experience as a Materials Engineer is a plus.
  • Experience with cleaning and handling of glass substrates.
  • High level understanding and experience with material preparation and working with reactive materials under inert atmosphere.

We’re looking for a junior level Optical Test and Measurement Engineer to join our Product Development Team, working on unbelievably cool product applications. On the personal development side, you will not only master many aspects of next generation digital optics, but potentially take your career path a decisive step further in a vibrant fast growing company with room for employees to grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform “hands-on” making, testing, evaluating, and de-bugging of custom optical assemblies
  • Process documentation, measurement and data extrapolation into detailed metrication test reports

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Optics, Physics or a related Engineering discipline, preferably with 1+ year of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in set up, use and alignment of optical components and related test equipment
  • Strong numerical background
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent cross-functional teamwork skills
  • High energy and drive to work in a startup environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with LabView and/or automation hardware
  • Familiar with Matlab, Python, or similar environments.
  • Polarization and optical alignment experience a plus
  • Hands on experience with interferometers, optical alignment tools is a plus
  • Industry and/or post-grad research experience
  • Experienced in assembly of optical systems, including handling and cleaning of optics, interpreting technical documentation, describing optical system components and assembly procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Optics, Physics, or a related Engineering discipline, with 10+ years industry experience or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in set up, use and alignment of optical components and related test equipment
  • Excellent optical design skills with Zemax / Code V
  • Experience with tolerance analysis, polarization analysis
  • Experience with optical system design and trade offs
  • Familiar with optical alignment tools and techniques
  • Familiar with lasers and light sources
  • A mix of R&D + Product Development experience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time and task management skills.
  • Excellent cross-functional teamwork skills
  • High energy and drive to work in a startup environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficient with Matlab / Labview, or equivalent environments
  • Practical knowledge of microdisplay technology a plus

Facilities & Manufacturing Technician

Reports to

Director of Operations

We are looking for a Facilities and Manufacturing System Technician to work with the Engineering and Operations teams on a variety of tasks within our Sunnyvale facilities. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Setting up and conducting routine preventative maintenance on:
    • Facilities systems (HVAC, CDA, clean room air handling)
    • Laser systems used for prototype production
    • Mechanical and electrical test equipment
  • Working with Engineering to set up of new tools used in prototype production
  • Working with Operations management on facilities upgrades

Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of HVAC and other facilities systems
  • Skilled in operation of a variety of basic hand held tools to assemble mechanical rigs for production and test
  • Ability to read and understand users guides and manuals for equipment and tools
  • Able to utilize computer software (Work, Excel, Outlook) to effectively communicate work status, set up PM schedules, etc.
  • Able to debug problems with facilities equipment and recommend corrective actions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in production, manufacturing or other related fields
  • Familiarity with schematics and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with manufacturing machinery and equipment
  • Ability to handle physical workload
  • Must be flexible to work requirements
  • Excellent communications skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiar with resources in the Sunnyvale area that provide services such as machining, electrical work, and mechanical contracting
  • Familiar with software used for building systems maintenance
  • Skilled in use of simple tools used to diagnose and repair electrical problems
