Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project planning and execution to drive projects from concept to commercialization, including startup and successful transfer to manufacturing
  • Ability to use a high degree of judgment, teamwork, and initiative to resolve complex non-standard problems, taking a new perspective on existing solutions, and developing recommendations and solutions for process and equipment improvements
  • Planning sequence of operations and procedures for the entire process of waveguide manufacturing
  • Design and planning layout for such processes as substrate washing, nanomaterial coating, thin film encapsulation, curing and other materials processing operations
  • Working closely with R&D team to understand process flow details, challenges, opportunities and limitations; being the process expert within a component design organization and providing technical input to the designers for the fabrication of their components
  • Applying sound engineering principles, rigor and manufacturing experience to:
    • Ensure safe, environmentally responsible processes are transferred to production
    • Solve chemical and process engineering problems related to new product and new manufacturing process concepts
    • Identify critical process parameters and develop functional FMEA, Cause and Effect Relationships, and Process Control Plans
    • Carry out experiments to determine the effect of processing variables on product properties and performance
  • Identifying applicable state of the art instrumentation, equipment, and alternate process technologies to upgrade the capability of manufacturing processes
  • Working closely with equipment vendors to optimize process
  • Working closely with customers to optimize tool performance to meet customer process and integration requirements
  • Checking and approving operational quality of system equipment; instructing customers in the operation and maintenance of the system
  • Effectively communicating project progress, risks, options, barriers and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability to work safely in laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing environments
  • Strong background in materials science and engineering fundamentals; keen ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts to develop robust technical solutions for implementation in commercial manufacturing operation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, scale-up, improve, troubleshoot and transfer new processes to manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Statistical techniques (DOE, Regression, Anova, SPC, Hypothesis Test, Process Capability Studies) for process development and process improvement
  • Sound Project Management skills, ability to successfully handle multiple projects using self-directed work management style
  • Ability to work on cross functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Process Design, Pilot Plant) to drive project results

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering/Technology
  • 5-10 years’ experience in semi-conductor industry, chemical process industry or capital tools development, with first-hand experience in process development, scale up, commercialization and productivity improvements
  • Extensive hands-on experience in thin, liquid film materials processing including coating/printing, vacuum encapsulation/lamination, and curing operations
  • Hands-on experience in material properties, interactions, and optimization for thin, liquid film coating/lamination operations

The NPI Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the introduction of new hardware and processes into production. A successful NPI engineer; is dynamic, driven, organized and detail oriented; excels in technical program/ project management; communicates with ease at all levels; thrives in a fast development environment and works well within a team structure to delivery results.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the team to lead the introduction of new products and manufacturing process.
  • Plan and execute on all New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Establish standards for Design for Manufacturing and lead the definition of manufacturing process requirements for major programs.
  • Engage design engineers and manufacturing team from design and prototype development through product launch to ensure schedule, cost and quality objectives are met.
  • Provide leadership in defining/communicating Operations’ requirements early in the NPI cycle.
  • Develop test strategies, processes and detailed documented procedures to ensure quality and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Lead test automation engineers to create tools necessary to support manufacturing goals for cycle time, data tracking and report generation.
  • Coordinate activities relating to Contract Manufacturer’s and Operations extended teams to meet launch commitments.
  • Engage with Contract Manufacturers’ technical staff to develop on-site test plans, strategies and implementation.
  • Determine new product manufacturing resource requirements, development plans, and introduction schedules.
  • Work closely with engineering, product management, and operations to define, track and ensure completion of NPI project objectives.
  • Project manage/coordinate NPI activities, including: quality, supply chain design, product manufacturability & testability, mfg. cost reduction.
  • Participate in programs aimed at reducing production cycle-times, manufacturing defects and product costs.
  • Generate documentation and ECO information for NPI and sustaining efforts.
  • Manage the stabilization of NPI transitions: evaluate in-process quality data and drive corrective action as required to maximize product manufacturability and to mitigate business risks.
  • Manage regular monitoring/reporting and reviews of project objectives, schedules and achievement of key milestones as required.
  • Develop action plans to characterize and mitigate high risks due to new assembly techniques, technologies, and materials.
  • Determines process requirements for new products & measures product performance to those requirements.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and training to manufacturing personnel.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in an engineering and/or manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and tests
  • Ability to create BOM’s and control documentation
  • Must be able to create and implement assembly/process documentation and provide training to personnel
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Knowledge of electronic and mechanical components
